National After School Association Conference Presentation Phoenix

Learning Upgrade will be presenting a session at the NAA Conference in Phoenix.  The session “Courses Deliver Math & Reading Growth” will take place Thursday March 22nd at 2:00 pm in Room 39 South Hall of the Phoenix Convention Center.   Presenter Vinod Lobo will share best practices from the numerous after school programs using the Math Upgrade and Reading Upgrade courses.

After school programs have become increasingly focused on delivering learning growth for students.  The U.S. No Child Left Behind act funds after school tutoring for students in failing schools to bring students up to proficiency.  Programs need to show measurable growth using teaching content aligned to state standards.

The conditions to deliver measurable growth are difficult: limited time, limited resources, and students tired from a long school day.  After school programs are turning to online courses to overcome these limitations.  The Upgrade courses engage students through songs, video, and games in a rigorous curriculum sequenced for intervention. Within 10 to 20 hours with an internet connected computer, students can complete a course and make gains of one or more years in reading and math.  Program staff can track progress using web-based diagnostic reports which track attendance, time on task, and achievement on each lesson.

Note: Learning Upgrade will also have an exhibit booth, #923, in the exhibit hall.  We hope to see you there!
