FAQ Friday: Can I Alter Which Levels A Student Has Access To?

Q: Can I Alter Which Levels A Student Has Access To?

A: Yes

Our courses are designed for students to progress one at a time, from 1 to 60 in math and 1 to 50 in reading and comprehension. There are times a teacher or parent may want to allow their students access to advanced levels beyond the levels of completion. Parents who have purchased “home” courses can call 800-998-8864 or email a request to info@learningupgrade.com. Teachers with school accounts can follow these steps:

Step 1: Log in to your Learning Upgrade Teacher Account and click on “Teacher Menu”

Step 2: Click on “Edit” next to the student you would like to progress. Change the number in the “Level” field to match the students needs.

Step 3: Click “Update”

FAQ Friday: How Do I Add Students To My Teacher Account?

Once you’ve created a teacher account, logged in, and created a class, you’ll be able to use your license codes to add students. There are two options for adding students. “Add Student Course” allows you to enroll students one at a time, and “Add Multiple Students” allows you to enroll an entire class in multiple courses with one process.

1. Add Student Course: To add one student at a time, click the “Add Student Course” link in the Teacher Menu. You will see the display below. First, select the course you want, then add the student license code, students name, grade level, language, and needs. Once you have finished entering the student course information, click on ‘Add Student’, and the student will be enrolled in your class.

2. Add Multiple Students: To add multiple students to your class at once, click on “Add Multiple Students” in the Teachers Menu. You will see the display below. In the left hand column under “Student Names (0)” you can type or paste the names of your students. This can be easily done from a student list spreadsheet or any other document where you can copy their names. Verify that the number in parentheses matches that of the number of students entered.

Once you have added the students names in the left hand column, click the down arrow in the “Course (0)” field. You can select any and all courses to enroll your students. The final step is to add the student add code to the “License Code” box and designate a grade level. Click “Enroll” and all of the students and courses will be added to your class.

FAQ Friday: How Do I Create a Class?

Creating classes is an easy way to organize students. It’s similar to creating folders on your computer to organize different groups of documents. This is important if you need to separate certain groups of students for reporting and monitoring.

Step 1: Log-in  to your account using the green LogIn button at the top left corner of our homepage

Step 2: Click on “Teacher Menu”

Step 3: In the teacher menu, find the field entry form for “Create New Class”. Type the name of the class in the entry field.

Step 4: You will now see your class in the “Choose Class to View” drop-down menu. You can select which class to view by clicking on the down arrow and selecting your class.

FAQ Friday: Can I Transfer a Student Course From a Different School Into My Class?

Yes, it is possible to transfer a student course from one school to another.  Although, it is only worthwhile to do this if the student has significant progress.

We would need this info:
1.) Student name
2.) Student username/password at former school
3.) Course the student was taking
4.) Former school name

5.) New teacher name, username
6.) New school name
7.) Class if teacher has multiple classes

Note: we have to contact the former school for permission, as we cannot move a student without the other principal in the loop.

Once you have collected the above information, you can send it to us via email to info@learningupgrade.com.

The other option is to create a new student ID at the new school, and edit the progress to the level attained at the old school.

FAQ Friday: Can Two Teachers Have Access to One Student Account?

Q: Can Two Teachers Have Access to One Student Account?

A: Yes

We find that this is a common question asked by resource teachers, librarians, after school teachers/coordinators, and anyone working with students where they are not the primary instructor.

For teachers and administrators to do this, they will have to request (and be granted) “admin” access for their Learning Upgrade account.

With “admin” access, users will see a list of the teacher accounts at their school in the Teacher Menu. From this drop down box they can switch between teachers to view their classes and students.

If you have a pullout class you want to monitor with the Student Monitor, you can create a new class under your user account, then search for your students under a different teacher and click EDIT next to their name. Set yourself as “Teacher 2″, and the class as “Class 2″. Then, you can monitor this student even if another teacher has enrolled them.

FAQ Friday: How Do I Sign Up for a Free Teacher Evaluation Course or School Pilot?

This post is to address the question of how to sign up for a free teacher evaluation course or school pilot.

1.) The first step is to identify whether or not you qualify. For either submission, you MUST have a valid school email address from a site in the United States. Submissions using personal email accounts will not be accepted. A teacher evaluation course may be requested by any teacher or administrator with a valid school email address. This evaluation includes a code for 1 student course and 1 teacher course of your choice. A 30 student school pilot can only be submitted by a school principal. This pilot will allow 30 students and a teacher full access to all Learning Upgrade courses and services.

FAQ Friday: Will Learning Upgrade Courses Work on an Ipad?

Q: Will Learning Upgrade Courses Work on an Ipad?

A: Yes and No

Our courses will not play at present on the iPads (or iPhones) Safari browser because Apple will not allow Adobe Flash to be installed on these devices.  However, there is a free app that will allow you to play Learning Upgrade, and any other flash based product, straight from your Apple mobile device. The app is called Rover, and is available through the Apple App Store.

Without using Rover, teachers can use iPads to enroll students or view most reports, just not play the courses themselves. Note that Android phones and tablets, and the new Amazon Kindle Fire, etc. will play our courses fine, as they support Adobe Flash player.
